Hi everyone,
My IE 6 on Win XP sp2 opens .txt file in IE instead of notepad. If I double
click on a .txt file in my computer it opens it up in Notepad, so the
program settings on the computer are file.

Anyone have a solution for this?
Thanks,
Sean

That's normal behavior. Remember that HTML is actually just text with a
bunch of tags in it (it is interpreted code written in text). If you
don't want the link to the .txt file to open the text file within IE,
right-click on the link and saved the .txt file to a local file and then
open it.

Hi sean sobey :-)

Malware, such as Coolwebsearch or it's variants, or other types of malware
have been know to cause this problem. Download, install and run the
following programs in Safe Mode. Follow all instructions carefully:

Sean,

Not sure if there is some other method, but I could accomplish the same by
breaking the Content Type registry setting for .txt files.
