Hello again!

I tried doing this
xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG to restore
your default Search functionality and reset your
prefixes.

But I am still having the intermittent problem with my
browser no longer working for anything other than https
sites. I can't make it happen at will or at least I
haven't yet discovered any certain thing that triggers
this action. I have to reboot the computer to get
browsing capability back. I am running XP Home with SP2
and IE6 with latest SP. I also run Adaware, Spybot Search
& Destroy, and McAfee Antispyware on a regular basis.
Other programs typically running include a Team Speak
server (http://www.teamspeak.org) and a game (City of
Heroes). I do have XP SP2 Firewall on and I use a Router
(Microsoft MN-700 Base Station).

Additionally, the Search from the Address bar still seems
to be nonfunctional. If I type something in the address
bar, it looks like it is trying but nothing happens other
than a blank page. For example, I typed in "falcons" in
the bar and this popped up in the address bar
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?
srch=106&FORM=AS6&q=falcons but all that displayed was a
white page.

Hi Todd :-)

Try the following and see if anything here will help:

Download and run:
http://www.kellys-korner-
xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG to restore
your default Search functionality and reset your prefixes. Although, you
will have to manually re-select Customizations you may have had.

or...........

Restore default Search functions:

In order to restore you default Search functions, download and run the
program below. You will have to redo any customized features you may have
added afterward.

or....................

Courtesy of Tony Klein, MS MVP:

This will restore the Windows defaults for a whole lot of Search related
registry entries.

CAUTION: BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST!

Close IE, copy the bold to Notepad, save as Search.reg (save as 'all files',
and doubleclick. Answer 'yes' when prompted to add the contents of
Search.reg to the Registry:

Restrore Search:
http://www.kellys-korner- xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG
This will restore your default Search functionality. You will, however,
have to restore any custom setups you may have had before.

Download the fix - Reset Search:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/IEFIX.reg

This will restore your default Search functionality. However, if you had
any custom adjustments you have made will have to re- select them.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

That is a symptom of a hijacked search bar where the hijacker's
server is either down or too busy and underpowered to respond.

One way that this could be done is by using your HOSTS file
to switch addresses from your preferred search service to the
hijacker's IP address.

To check on that possibility verify that the address which nslookup
returns is the same as the address which ping -n 1 uses.

FWIW here is the result from my nslookup for that site:

<example>
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: a134.g.akamai.net
Addresses: 132.246.2.8, 132.246.2.6
Aliases: search.msn.com, search.msn.com.edgesuite.net
</example>

Have you tried using a different search service?
