IE not properly displaying web site

For some reason my IE is not displaying any background colors or images on web sites. I am using IE 6.0.2800 on an XP machine. I know that Netscape will not display background colors or images but my IE is having the same problem. I can see the same sites on a friend's computer (who is also using IE) and they look fine. Is there some setting I need to change in order to view the sites correctly?

Try if this helps you.....
open the IE browser tool -> Advance -> Multimedia
check if the show picture option is checked or not.. if
not check the option and apply the setting...
