IE not keeping

I have an odd event happening that causes inconvenience:
from time to time all my cookies seem to effectively disappear. I notice it
because I suddenly have to re-orient every site I visit to my preferences:
wsj.com no longer knows I'm a member, accuweather.com doesn't know what my
location is for "local
weather," etc. It's happened 2 or 3 times in the last couple months.

Any ideas what may be wrong?

Two possibilities:
1. during a power failure or incorrect shutdown procedure
your Cookies folder became corrupted and was reinitialized
2. your computer's battery is failing and causing an incorrect
time and date to be saved and presented. E.g., the year is off
enough that the Cookies all expire at the same time.
