I accepted a search by idgsearch.com and it proceeded to
force itself as my IE homepage, resistant to change by
standard way of setting homepage. On contacting them,
they offer to remove it by downloading
dgsearch.com.autohomepageremover.
I am reluctant to accept that offer since their
reputation is ruined already. Has anyone used their offer
without causing further problems. thank you

First, scan the system for parasites and remove them. SpyBot S&D searches
your harddisk for Spyware and Adware
http://security.kolla.de/

&

Adaware (similar)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
(Remember to perform a Webupdate to have the latest definitions installed)

This will remove malware from the PC.

I tried kalla.de and it solved a different problem I was
having with startup stalling with "windows cannot find
file etc." but it did not cure my IE homepage hijack.

I tried lavasoft adaware and in log left checked only the
items that had idgsearch in title and removed those and
that seems to have solved the problem I am grateful for
your solution Ramesh.

Most welcome. Ad-Aware detects all possible spyware in the system. So,
select all entries and remove them.
