IE crashes when accessing email links

I'm using IE 6.0. Everytime I click on an email link from
a website, IE seems to go nuts and tries to open up as
many as 21 new instances of IE then crashes. The only
message I get is that the default mail client is not
properly installed. I use Outlook Express, but have had
it for years and never had a problem with it. Is this an
IE problem or an Outlook express problem? How do I fix it?

I tried all the solutions. None worked. When I tried to
set OE to the default in Internet options, it is not even
listed - Only MS Outlook is listed, and I can't add OE.
When I tried to fix the registry, OE is not listed in the
registry of clients. It is listed in News, but not mail.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Go to Start | Run and type this command, with the double quotes and spaces:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

and then make sure that OE is selected as the default mail program in both
IE and OE.

If that isn't enough, see this article:

To set Outlook 98, 2000 or 2002(XP) as the default mail client,- Go to
Start, Run - Type in the following with quotation marks and press OK
"C:\program files\microsoft office\office\outlook.exe" /checkclient
