My desktop has been invading by a particulary annoying
Microsoft bug. Almost every day, at some time, (sometimes
when I try to surf to a wrong address, but it is not
limited to this time), my home page (currently my Yahoo)
gets reset to a Microsoft page. I then have to reset my
home page. I looked to find the program/virus that does
this on my computer, but can't find it. I even did a file
search looking for text that includes the URL for the
Microsoft site. No luck. Any ideas how I can get rid of
this invasive, imperialist program?

You have not eXPerienced a "invasive, imperialist program bug".
Your PC did eXPerience a security breech because it is not properly
protected (i.e. User Neglect). Read the following:

Home Page Setting Changes Unexpectedly, or You Cannot Change Your Home Page Setting

IE-SPYAD is a Registry file (IE-ADS.REG) that adds a long list of sites and domains associated
with known advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer.
Once this list of sites and domains is "merged" into your Registry, most marketers, advertisers, and
crapware pushers on the Net will not be able to use cookies, ActiveX controls, Java applets, or scripting
to compromise your privacy or your PC while you surf the Net. Nor will they be able to use your browser
to push unwanted pop-ups, cookies, or auto-installing programs on you.

Consider purchasing and installing a good internet security program:

Hi

Try all of the following programs to see if there is any spyware on your system:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

In addition to installing ad aware, spy bot and other
anti spyware programs, download CWShredder from
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.php#quickfix It finds things
that none of the others find. I got this advice from
someone in this group last week when I had similar
problems with a stubborn version of coolWWW spyware. Ad
aware and spybot would find and remove parts of it, but
when I rebooted, my homepage would be changed again and I
woul dhave to remove the spyware agin. CWShredder got all
of it that the others could not. Also some very good
information on the above page.

the bug has nothing to do with microsoft!
it is a trojan or hijacker. run adaware and spybot. also
spyware blaster.
