I have a 6 year old computer with an 4.66 megabytes
processor with only 96 SB RAM. The rest of my RAM previous
got wiped out by a virus. But that was 3 years ago. I have
windows 98 the second edition. Over the years I have tried
my hardest to keep this one in at least working condition.
It still is but I have some problems. I have Ad-Aware to
keep spyware and such out of my computer and I keep
ad-aware up to date. I also have Norton Antivirus 2003
Professional Version. I have been running these together
for about a year now and there have been no problems with
them finding each other as a virus because I know that can
happen. My problem is about a week ago my Internet Explorer
wouldn't load pop-ups or links that I click that open up
into another browser. But now some load but not all. When I
first discovered the problem I ran ad-aware and norton. I
also deleted my cookies and temporary internet files. Then
I restarted. But they still wouldn't load. I waited for a
week and ran ad-aware and norton a few more times and I got
very few pop-ups back. I would say about 15% of them of
them back. I also have this other program that stopped
working. It is called Shadowfax and it is a recruiter for
the Online Role Playing game King of Chaos. It opens up
into Ms-Dos then when it loads to open the program I get
the error about the program doing an illegal operation then
the program shuts down. This program worked before as well.
It stopped working the same time my IE pop-ups stopped. I
am beginning to think that it is virus that I have not
detected but let me know what you think. It would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Amanda
PS: You are probably guessing how I sent this to you when
it pops up to reply. I am in my internet provider. It is
Compuserve 7.0 it is AOL's cheap partner. Let's just say I
prefer to use IE. Also the pop-ups work in Compuserve not IE.
