When will IE 7 be officially released? Any ideas?

Thomas

In a recent chat on IE7, Dave Massey responded that it will be released in
4th quarter of this year. I haven't seen anything more specific than that
from any official source.

Thank you Tom for your response. I was just curious because I knew that it
would be a windows update and was curious when it might be pushed out.

the last i heard, it was scheduled to be released to the
microsoft/automatic update servers in october. that would, most
likely, mean next tuesday. don't know if there's a revised schedule
yet. RC1 is a good and stable release, although it does get snagged
and crashed by the Shockwave/Flash plug-in pretty regularly. i keep
Flash disabled anyway, though and have nearly no problems with it.
it's far superior relative to firefox...don't let anyone tell you any
different.

i already did. ie 7.

hold on, you're confusing me with your rapier wit.

i have the most recent version of both browsers. the interface is much
cleaner in ie7. relative to beta 3, rc1 loads much much faster.
firefox did initially load faster relative to beta 3, but the
difference is imperceptible with the current rc1. other than that,
i've noticed that firefox just doesn't render webpages correctly fairly
often. i've read that the reason it doesn't render properly sometimes
is because the website is actually tailored to ie rather than current
standards, and that because firefox adheres closer to current
standards, the webpages don't look right. either way, the webpages
don't render correctly. i was forced to use firefox eight hours a day
when i worked for apple, and, though it is superior to safari, i find
using firefox tedious and aggravating compared to ie7.

ie 7 just works better. i have yet to read of one option in firefox
that outweighs all its shortcomings.

IE will always load faster because part of its loading occurs when you
boot into Windows.

Well, I guess we'll have to see when Firefox 2.0 comes out, the
competitor to IE7. The current Firefox version is more the competitor to
IE6 and beats it hands down. YMMV. I would predict that the final
version of FF 2.0 will be out before IE7's "final" version.

i like to compare things that actually exist. RC1 exists, and it's
great; Firefox 1.5 exists, and it's underwhelming.

maybe you'll be right, who knows? we'll see. at this moment, though,
RC1 gets my vote.
