Mike S.

This just started tonight. I can start IE 6 fine, it
loads whatever page I have set as the home page (msn.com,
yahoo.com, etc) then it freezes for about 15 seconds.
During this time I can't select a link or even get a
response. After the pause, the page works ok, but I have
the same delay when I bring up the next page. I've
already scanned for spyware after reading some of the
previous posts. Anything I can try to fix this? Or should
I just download Mozilla?

Hi there!
Wow, what a coincidence: Since yesterday I'm now...ALSO
experiencing EXACTLY the same behavior with my IE6!!
Of course, I already tried to fix it with the "repair-mode"
(for IE), but unfortunately to no avail.
So could it be that a VIRUS is causing this temporary freezing?
(The whole Status Bar is filled fully with all the green bars, but
disappears only after "some" time!).
So...ME TOO hopes now very much that someone can explain
to "us" how to solve it...and who knows: Perhaps this freezing
is now affecting also many more users right now...or??
Best regards,
Philippe

Wow: I found now in my case what kind of spyware crept into my system:
<Stat Blaster>!!
So look for it too at <Add or Remove Programs> and if located there,
just delete it, reboot and...good luck!!

Wow! - I wonder if it is because of our Name

I just started having the same problem. Shut down the computer....everything

Have you found a solution

Thanks

Try clearing history, delete cookies, clearing temporary
internet files.

If this failed, then try delete index.dat. To delete this
file, follow the steps below:
Index.dat files are files impossible to delete under
windows, and it stores all the information of your
surfing history, you can be followed through these
dangerous files. and even if you delete your cookies and
your history, these index.dat files remain there and
become bigger and bigger, their original size is 16kb but
they can reach up until 600kb.

to preserve your privacy I found a way to delete them..
it's impossible to do in Windows thus you have to reboot
your computer then press F8 or F5 for advanced boot
options; then choose "safe mode with command prompt; log
in as administrator and then from there you can delete
them freely without Windows preventing it.

just go to the root (c:\) by typing CD\
then type del index.dat /s then enter
and all the files names index.dat in your computer will
be deleted permanently.
for more security; also in command prompt mode; go and
completely delete your cookies folder to be completely
sure all your internet cache and history is gone forever.
(well until you start browsing again; as soon as you boot
up normally windows will recreate them.. But blank)

Same issue here, started yesterday evening
-----Original Message-----
I'm having the same problem with IE 6 on Win98 SE. Used to happen
periodically, but starting last night it now happens on every page. I've also
checked for Spyware. Hope someone has an answer.

Oops, so has anyone else looked for this spyware which I
had (at least!) on my system: "Stat Blaster"??
(See also my entry further up this path here...).
But in the meantime, someone advised me about another
solution: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced >
Uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" (!?!?).
So "good luck" to all of you being currently still affected; okay!
Best regards,
Philippe Borel

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to

Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I downloaded Ad Aware and ran it. My problem went away. It cleaned up stuff that Spybot S & D didn't. If you haven't tried this, give it a shot. Good luck. I know it's very frustrating.
