Browswer will not open at all. I run Win XP. Error message says IE has
encountered an error and must close, sorry for any convenience.
AppName: iexplore.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106
ModName: Winshow.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.3
Offset: 000a95e

I can access the Net through "search" feature from MyComputer. I downloaded
the latest IE 6 setup (479kb) but trying to update, then I get the message
that the computer has detected a "newer version" of IE and cannot continue
setup. (How can there be a newer version than the "latest version"
02/26/2004 from www.microsoft.com)?

Any suggestions as to what to do here? Short of pulling out my original XP
restore CDs and reinstalling the fresh-out-of-the-box version of IE 6?

I have the same problem on two different computers. Doing
a repair with the original XP disc does not work. You
could try reinstalling, than reinstalling all your programs
or do the next best thing down load Netscape 7.1 for free.
It comes with its own popup stopper. Using IE you get
more popups than searches. Netscape is great.

anonymous,

I'm experiencing this problem as well and as of today IE 6
does not open and my experience is the same. I had
similar symptoms randomly when IE was opening another (a
second) window. I have invoked 3-4 restore points with no
change. Removed IE and attempted to replace it from the
web but setup failed to complete. I know of another
person who has been trying to resolve this problem but has
not solved the problem. They went all the back to the
original restore point and that did not change the
symptom. If I don't get this figured out fairly soon I'll
install Navigator again.

Any help via my email address above will be most
appreciated. I'll share it with a friend.
