Product Name:
Windows 98 PID 35300-OEM-0077077-74010 (98.4.10.222)
IE 6.02800.1106CO

Problem Description:
Running IE, I can not change a home page, clear temp
files, or clear history.

If I enter tools > internet options a box opens in which
seven tabs should be available. Instead the box that opens
only has five tabs. The General and Program Tabs are
missing. I have also just started getting IE Script Errors.

I tried reinstalling IE6.0, the problem remained.

Computer Manufacturer:
Compaq

Start-Run-Regedit

There could be more than one "GeneralTab" value.
Try these keys first and then search for GeneralTab (no space)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Control Panel

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Control Panel

Remove "GeneralTab" if present.
The same for ProgramsTab

Check your system for spyware.

I have been stumped byt the same problem. MSFT
Knowledgebase Article - 272449 describes the fix. I tried
it and it worked.
Good luck.

Hi

I posted a very similar post last night - however after a
long search I found how to fix it.

First of it is to do with the Registry Keys, so you have
to use Regedit. To do this simply click on start then
click on Run..., then type in regedit.exe

This will open up regedit

In the left side of the window there will be My computer
with folders branching off it which all start off HKEY_

Find the folder entitled HKEY_CURRENT_USER, this will open
and you be presented will more folders, then click on the
Folder entitled SOFTWARE, then more folder will appear,
then click on the Policies folder, then the Microsoft
folder, then Internet Explorer folder, and finally the
Control Panel folder.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > Policies > Microsoft >
Internet Explorer > Control Panel

This will then present you on the right side of the window
so icon which should say (Default), General Tab and
Programs Tab. If you look in the Data column next to each
of the icons it may say 0x00000001 (1) or something like
that. Double click on General Tab and it'll open another
small window entitled Edit DWORD Value, and simply where
it says Value Data changed that to 0 and that should fix
it. Then do the same to Programs and then close.

Reset the Internet Explorer tabs and remove all the browser restrictions.
Download the script from:

Remove IE Restrictions & Restore Missing tabs

Also, refer Fix 268 from Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Restore All tabs in IE and Removes the ** Internet Options ** Restrictions
as well

The problem is due to a spyware. Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com,
scan the system and eliminate the malware products. Re-apply the above fix
if necessary.
** Remember to update the pattern file using WebUpdate in Ad-Aware **
