Idle Process

My Windows Task Manager always shows the "System Idle Process" at 70% + .
As I have anti-virus software on my computer, I assume that I am not
infected. DO YOU KNOW WHY THIS PROCESS KEEPS EATING UP PROCESSOR TIME? I
am not doing anything, and the computer becomes basically unusable.

.
The Idle Process is just that.... a measure of your
processor that is not being used at any given moment.

You ARE kidding aren't you?

My computer is a Pentium 1.7 Ghz running XP Home, and at times I might as
well go for a pot of coffee... and come back 1.5 hours later. Just bringing
a window up into the forground takes forever!

Patrick definitely has a problem if his 1.7GHz processor running XP Home
only has 70% idle time!

My 933MHz system with Outlook 2003, Outlook Express, Remote Desktops, a
Performance Monitor monitoring my Exchange Server, and only 256MB of RAM
routinely has >90% idle time.

My 450MHz system sitting idle w/384MB RAM has >85% idle time.

It also depends on what else is running which Patrick is running at the
time, which he has not stated.
However following the link I posted may turn up something.
He stated he has AV software, but that is far from running and keeping it
updated.

It appears that I have been running the latest worm !?~¿?!-?¿!?!?~... and
by the way, Symantec's Norton is terrible at dealing with worms!

I have been attacked twice, and found only after my PC went COMPLETLY TO
SLEEP (i.e. pressing start-bar key on Microsoft keyboard... to get nothing)
that I could not launch Norton anymore.

Does anyone know how to repair damage to Norton AV, after being attacked by
the worm #!?~¿?!-?¿!?!?~... virus? And how do you get [

to recognize that you have a licensed copy, so as to clean your PC?

Patrick;
You need to contact Norton if their software does not appear licensed.

You could run another anti virus, step 1 on this link:
