Hi,

I've been asked to put Outlook onto a small (15 user) network for basic calendar
sharing and scheduling. I know next to nothing about Outlook, and a quick look
on the MS website gives me way too much info to dechiper easily. Can someone
tell me what I would actually need to buy for this? Do I need a network version
of Outlook? What do I need on the clients? Will an older less bloated version be
best or is the 2003 version the one to have?

The network is based on a Win 2000 Server, and is a mixture of W98, WME, W2000
and WXP clients.

many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.....

Outlook alone isn't going to cut it for calendar sharing - you need exchange
server or for a network that size, SBS2003 standard. Win2k3's sharepoint
services might work for their needs too, since they just need calendar and
contact sharing. Other options are here:
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/share.htm. If you use Exchange (either
standalone or SBS) any version of outlook will work - sharepoint services
works best with OL2003.

Bloat-wise, they are all the same, with the newest versions containing more
features - I would go with the latest for the features.

Thanks for the reply Diane. Just so I can cost justify something like SBS, can
you tell me briefly what Outlook won't do that SBS or Exchange will ref
calenders and scheduling?

many thanks
