After installing Windows XP i began to have trouble boot
up my system. It says IDE not detected and have to
restart multiple times and eventually it works. This did
not start until after installing XP. Any advice is
appreciated.

Have you updated the BIOS on your machine recently? What is the exact error
message/

That sounds like a hardware problem, not a Windows problem.

I am assuming that this error comes up immediately after turning on
the computer, before the first Windows XP startup screen appears.

I think you should go to the hard drive manufacturer's web site and
download their diagnostic utility and then run it to test your hard
drive. It may have become defective.

Good luck

Wow Ronto, you're good. I thought OP said he can't even boot the PC. How
can he go to device manager. I think Ron's diagnostic is more correct. I
sounds like a hardware problem and maybe as simple as loose or bad cable.
