ICS in Windows XP

I have a desktop running XP Pro and a laptop with XP
Home. For 6 months Internet Connection Sharing has worked
without problems. After installing some software for an
MP3 player and also the latest Norton Antivirus my laptop
can no longer see the internet. The desktop sees the
cable broadband connection but occasionally IE sets
itself offline.

I can see that the laptop is not receiving an IP address
from the ICS DHCP server on the desktop pc, but setting a
static address of 192.168.0.2 doesn't solve the problem
(although file sharing then works!).

I have also tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew
on the laptop - neither will complete due to an error
about this not being possible on the network connection.
Have also tried using netsh to rebuild the TCP/IP stack
on both pcs with no luck.

Where do I go next?

Thanks for the suggestion, however I have now found the
cause. The MP3 player's software added some entries to
the start of the Path environment variable, and this
meant that various parts of Windows XP could no longer
find C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32. Moving the new
entries to the end of the Path solved my ICS problems.

Try uninstalling the antivirus and see if things work.
