I am in the process of setting up Internet Connection
Sharing between two computers: a host with XP Home and a
client with XP Pro. My host computer has two ethernet
cards: one is connected to my cable modem while the other
is connected to a hub which is then connected to my
client computer's ethernet card. I have run the network
wizard on both my host and client computer, yet my client
computer still cannot browse the internet. I have also
manually activated ICS in my host computer with no
change. I have read in Microsoft Article 308006 I must
check the appropriate connection in my client computer
(local area connection) and make sure that in TCP/IP
properties it obtains an IP address automatically.
However, this option is unavailable. Furthermore, when I
right-click this connection and select repair, I receive
an error message stating that TCP/IP is not enabled for
this connection. Also, if I check the status, all IP
address information is listed as unavailable. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Something's wrong with the client computer's local area network
connection. Go to Device Manager and un-install the network adapter
that the LAN connection uses. Reboot and let XP Pro detect and
re-install the network adapter, which will create a new LAN
connection.

.

Reinstalling the device allowed me to check the TCP/IP
properties and see that indeed the device is set up to
receive an IP address automatically, but I still cannot
browse the internet. Also, I have used the internet
connection wizard to make sure that my client computer is
looking for a broadband connection that is always on,
which should be correct in my network's case. Also, I
attempted to repair my local internet connection and I
received an error message once the repair was complete
stating that renewing the IP address failed.

The host computer uses a broadband connection that's always on, but
that's irrelevant on the client computer.

Run the Network Setup Wizard on the client and tell it that the client
connects to the Internet though another computer on the network.
