ICS and Firewall

I have shared my ADSL Internet connection on my XP-pro machine. This PC has
Symantec's NIS installed.
The 192.168.x.x is defined as a "Trusted Zone".
Access to the net for other PC's in my LAN is given thru "default gateway".
The host (192.168.0.1) being powered on is all that seems necessary for
others to access the internet.
My question is simple and naive:
Are the other PC's in my LAN protected without having a firewall installed?

Thanks in advance!

If configured correctly, they sould be - at least from uninitiated inbound
access. You should go to site such as http://scan.sygate.com/ to check for
your basic firewall vulnerability. Personaly, I do not like ICS and use a
hardware nat/firewall device at the cable/dsl modem such as the the Netgear
ProSafe line that starts at well under $100. All it takes is one
misconfiguration or for a trojan/worm to disable your firewall and all your
computers are vulnerable, though I think personal firewalls are a good
additional line of defense after a perimeter device. --- Steve
