How do you get rid of the little shadow on the icon name on the desktop?
(Windows XP)

Close the curtains on all the windows in the room.

If you're talking about the box below the icon showing instead of just
the name, so that the box is transparent, right-click My Computer =>
Properties => Advanced tab => Performance section => Settings button
Check the box (near the bottom of the list) 'Use drop shadows for icon
labels on the desktop'.

Four things are needed for transparent icon backgrounds:

1. System Properties | Advanced | Performance Settings | Visual Effects.
Check “Use drop shadows for icon labelsâ€.

2. Right click on a blank are of the desktop Desktop | Arrange Icons by |
Lock web items must be cleared.

3) Remove any web content from the desktop. Right click a blank are of the
Desktop | Properties | Desktop | Customize Desktop | Web. Make sure all
check boxes are clear.

4) Wallpaper must be an image file, not html.
