Win.XPPro SP2. When my PC returned from the workshop where repairs included
reinstallation of Windows I found that the icons I had on the Task Bar by
"Start" i.e. Desktop, OE.Internet Explore have vanished.

Is there a way I could reinstate these icons, otherwise I do not have a way
of getting back to Desktop if e.g. I am on the internet.

Right click on the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
In the menu that pops up, look for a check mark next to "Lock
the Taskbar". If present, click on that entry to remove the
check mark and unlock the Taskbar.
Right click on the Taskbar again.
In the menu that pops up, move your mouse pointer up to
Toolbars.
A list of Toolbars should be displayed.
In that list, put a check mark next to Quick Launch by clicking
on that entry.
You can resize the Quick Launch bar.
You can also add shorcuts by dragging and dropping them onto
the Quick Launch toolbar.

Once you've competed this procedure, you can go back and lock
the Taskbar by simply right clicking the Taskbar and clicking
on "Lock the Taskbar" in order to put the check mark back.

Good luck

Right-click on your taskbar along the bottom and then click properties. On
the window that pops up make sure there is a check in " Show Quick Launch".
