just today it started, if i reboot or do something that triggers it (not
sure what it is), but all of a sudden the icons collapse back as if set to
auto arrange).

i use a utility ive had for awhile that allows me to restore the positions
from the last save, so i can get them back except for any recent changes, i
think i acquired this back in win98 cuz it happened fairly often and have
just kept it as a handy tool for occassional problems, but this is now
happening lots.

is there some setting or 'clean' i can do?

thanks.

how do I post a question
Just learning

First, don't use the web interface. It's awful. Use a newsreader. XP
comes with one, Outlook Express. Here is a link to information on setting
up OE in XP for newsgroups. I have also included a link to a list of MS
public newsgroups. From there compose a new message and include all
relevant information. Lastly I have added a link to an article on how to
make a good newsgroup post to optimize your chances of getting help.

Well, did you turn off auto-arrange? Or at least check that it's not turned
on by mistake?

yep, that one was the 1st thing i made sure of. i found a tweak in tweakui
that rebuilds the icons, somehow, and the seemed to cure the problem.

thanks.
