Icons slow to refresh

I have a fast machine , but in Windows XP, my desktop and other Icons take
allot
longer to refresh as I move around than they used to.

Yes I have lots of Icons on the desktop and in 'my pictures' but the
slowdown is annoying.

If I re build my Icons in TweakUI it is immediately fixed , but only for a
short time.

I need a permanent fix is there is one.

All suggestions appreciated.
 
What kind of video card do you have and how much memory does it have? Also
what are your system specs? Unless you manually refresh the desktop(which
you shouldn't have to do), you should never see the desktop icons refresh.
 
Matrox G550 with 32 megs of ram.
Pentium 4, 1.7 , . 500 megs ram.
When I close an app, the desktop icons all refresh.
 
Ok, 32mb of video ram now-a-days is really low, but it should work ok with
xp. The icons refreshing after closing an app is not normal xp behaviour. I
would first try to update your video drivers from the video card makers
website(or your oem's website).
