Icons on Nav Bar

I am trying to take off the vertical buttons on my home
page on my website and just replace with text hyperlinks.
I have done that for all the pages below the home page
but I can't get the home page to let go its buttons. I am
using shared borders and have tried to right click on the
icons and change them under styles but that didn't work.
If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.
 
Delete the nav bar, save the page and then insert a new nav bar
