In XP Pro I wish to delete all desktop icons except for the Recycle Bin.
The only two icons I am concerned about deleting are Internet Explorer and
Outlook as I use both. These are the only two without the shortcut arrow on
the icon; also when you right click you get more than just shortcut
information. How do I safely remove without deleting the applications? Is
there a check box somewhere? Thanks in advance, Geoff

Try looking at Control Panel-Display-Desktop tab-"Customize Desktop" button
in lower-left. In the next dialog box are checkmark boxes at the top to
either sow or not show My Computer, Documents, Network Places, Recycle Bin,
and IE. Outlook was placed there by its own program and should not be
affected. I used the above to remove Network Places as I don't have the
need for it.

Right-click the icon and select properties. Then look at the general
tab to confirm that it is identified as a shortcut.
