Icon in taskbar when new mail is not working

Using latest version of Office. Suddenly when recieving new mail, there is
no icon in the taskbar to indicate this, even though it is activated.

Any ideas?

are u using XP? it has a bad habbit of trying to hide
things in the taskbar. u may try this...

if u have a little "<" in the taskbar, right-click on it.
then choose "customize" button.
scroll down to the Outlook mail icon & click on it.
then choose "always show"
