Like, where is it?
Instead of doing something naughty like replacing the icons in the
shell32.dll file I might wish to replace some from the icon cache, where
could I find it?

Go to: Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View/Show Hidden File and
Uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files.

It is located here:

IconCache.db
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data

To clear and reset icon cache:

Right click the Desktop/Properties/Appearance/Advanced. Use the item
drop box and choose Icon. Change the pixel number by one. Ok your way
out.

Thanks JS

I had this done already but allocated 4096 to Max Cached Icons. I never
thought about it reserving my RAM for icons so after reading that article I
reduced it to 2000 ( I have only 256 Rambus RAM @ 300 -400 MHz which is
impossible to find these days for an upgrade) so obviously I can use all the
space I can get.

Thanks again.

Most welcome and thanks for the update! :o)

No problem.
As a footnote, I'm trying to build my own Icon sets, instead of using the
GUI's "change Icons" I wanted to edit the actual .DLL and .EXE's...Is that
"legal"?

Also...Is there an application I could use to edit .db files ( I have Visual
Studio 2005 standard edition, resource hacker and notepad++ but either show
random characters or hex and I'm no good with hex editing. )

Thanks again Kelly. ;)
