I'm having a problem with my different accounts running Windows XP Professional. The icons on my desktop have a default background that makes the icon text transparent (i.e. you can see the text imposed directly over the background picture). My wife has somehow managed to make her default icon text a color. Anyone have any idea about making her icon background transparent as well?

to make icon text transparent in XP:

control panel, system: performance button, appearance, choose Custom and
then,

under effects, there is a choice worded something like "drop shadow" or
"icon name shadow". select that. select/deselect any of the other
effects you like/dislike.
