Hi. I recently reset my firewall program and now when I connect to the
internet, I get a warning box that:
berp-mbl 13.dial.aol.com (64.12.4.23) wants to send and ICMP packet to
my computer. And in details: kernel driver. Echo reply.
I removed AOL many months ago and would like to know what this is about.
Any suggestions??
Thanks. Dingo.

Something in the AOL network is sending you a ping. It's no big deal. It's
nice of them to be thinking of you but forget about it. You're going to get
all sorts of messages from your firewall software unless you turn down the
logging/notification level a bit. One ping is nothing. Zillions of pings
would be more of an issue.

Dingo:

You can block all ICMP replies if you want and if your f/w supports
controlling ICMP.

My router WAN port logging shows about 850 ICMP hits per 24 hrs.
