I have been having some wierd things happen lately. Lockups, weird
activity on my drive. I have the latest virus scanner etc.

I did diagnostics for my IBM Deskstar 60 GIG drive. Found corrupted
sectors and gave me two options:
Attempt to repair
Low Level format

I did the repair. Claims to of repaired the drive. I have had a day
of now weirdness afterwards.

I have found references to drives like mine and they say to replace it
as soon as possible. I have also been told to image it. Then do a
low level format and then reinstall. I just did a debug wipe of the
drive before Dec. 2003 then reinstalled XP as NTFS and it is already a
mess.

What options do I have or any suggestions. One idea is to image and
get a new drive. Will I just pass some of the garbage to the new
drive?

Running Windows XP Pro
AMD 900Mhz
512 mb ram.
Would image with Drive Image 2003.

Thanks,
Bob

Copy all data files to CDR/W or floppy or some other external storage
device.

Replace Hard drive.

Reinstall XP and all software (and drivers, if necessary)

Copy data files back to new hard drive. -Dave

Backup your data, replace the HD with Maxtor, Western Digital even Seagate,
and reinstall your O.S. They don't call them IBM Deathstars for nothing.

I took the drive back to Fry's Electronics. I had paid for a in store
replacement policy, good thing. I wanted a different drive and would
pay the difference but Fry's would only give me similar drive unless
they had no more in stock. Wouldn't you know they had more of the
great drives waiting to die.

I went a head and got the 60 GIG drive and then went to CostCo.
CostCo had a 160GIG drive for $121 so I bought that. Way more space
then I needed.

I am back in business and hope it stays that way. I am still running
a couple WD 6GIG drives and still have my 13GIG Maxtor. This IBM
DeskStar or DeathStar has been nothing but trouble.

Thanks,
Bob
