"IAdHide.dll" belongs to BackWeb. It is installed with the software for
e.g. Logitech products. It checks for software upgrades from Logitech.
It's present under Software => Logitech Desktop Manager, where it can
be uninstalled.

See also http://www.backweb.com/news/html/rellogitech.html.

The files backweb-8876480.exe, IAdHide3.dll and tempiadhide3.dll are
also part of BackWeb.
Backweb, suggest they only monitor keyboard / mouse activity, so they
know when the computer is inactive, they claim they don't record key
strokes. (source)

background processes with Security Task Manager.

That's what scares me about this, I don't have any LogiTech software installed on my pc right now, I didn't reinstall it after the last time I did a destructive restore of my computer including reformatting the C: drive. So how is it that one of it's componants shows up now? Strange enough, part of the reason I did a destructive restore of my computer to begin with is because the CD writer in my CPU keeps opening for no givin reason at any time even when I am not using the computer. Also, I am intermitantly getting a message asking me for a file that's on the LogiTech installation disk, and both these issue persist even after the destructive restore and reprogramming it with it's latest firmware update. I wonder if this somehow relates to all these problems?

So here I am still troubled with this IadHide5.dll file lingering in my temp folder annoying the hell out of me in the anticipation that it may, now after reading this reply to my post, cause further problems down the road.

Again thanks for taking the time to reply!

What type of mouse or touchpad do you have? Any kids that may have
plugged in a gamepad? My bet is that it is nothing to worry about....;

I am currently using an IBM ps2 mouse that's sitting in for my damaged mouse
that came with my computer and the keyboard is a standard PS2 Keyboard that
also came with my computer.

I do not have have an anti-virus program installed on my computer, my DSL
modem has built in firewall capabilities and I have it set to high, -all the
more reason for me to be weary of this file, if it is harmless and part of a
legitamate backweb program why is it in the temp folder?

Thanks again,
Elaine

Then install one. A firewall WILL NOT STOP A VIRUS. Firewalls have no
idea what a virus is.

You are a danger to your computer and others on the Internet. Your DSL
modem will not protect you from viruses and other non-viral malware.
Get a full-featured av, install it, and update it. As for your .dll
problem, run through the malware removal steps here:

You probably have something like Hotbar or NewDotNet or the like.

Do you have a HP computer? I have the same file in the temp folder. I did
some researching and I found that HP uses the Backweb program.

Not quite, my computer is a Compaq Presario and I haven't had this problem
in the past, even after reinstalling the Operating System. I like being
able to emty the temp folder when I feel there is too much in it, but now it
only emties to the point that it gets to the IadHide5.dll file and then I
get a Windows message telling that it is in use by another progam and cannot
be deleted.

Thanks for your reply.

Compaq is owned by HP. They are one company.

You can finish emptying the Temp Folder by not selecting the items it tell
you it can't purge. You can at least get rid of everything else in the Temp
Folder. If you have any of the pre-installed games that come with computers
I think that dll is also related to updating those.

iahide5.dll - Troubleshooting

Hello all,

Use "move on boot" - it's a fantastic program that has completely fixed the problem I was having.
Link http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html

My anti-spyware reported iahide5.dll and as I had not installed any applications recently I thought it was a bit suspect so I selected "block this item". Unfortunately/fortunately my anti-spyware program continued to report this dll as being freshly blocked over-and-over (e.g. the app the dll was part of was re-launching itself every time it had been blocked) the path reported was /documents&settings/[my user name]/local settings/temp/iahide5.dll

I attempted to delete the dll but (of course) windows reported the file as being in use. That's when I began crawling the forums for answers.

I decided to perform a long overdue spyware + virus scan + registry clean and decided at the same time to have a little poke around my local drives to see if there was anything peculiar and *shazam!* what on earth is c:/program files/backweb ?!?!? I don't remember installing that or seeing that directory at any other time previously (even though my PC is an HP)!

So I tried removing the /backweb folder and sub-directories but (of course) some files were reported as being in use.

Troubleshooting: I went through each dll within the /backweb directory one-by-one and tried deleting it. Every time a delete was denied and reported as 'in use' I added the dll to "move on boot" to be deleted.
I restarted my computer and my anti-spyware app has stopped kicking up a stink (no more iahide5.dll) and my CPU was eerily quiet on start-up.
PROBLEM SOLVED!

NOW my only question to put to the forum is a)How did this god-awful backweb f*#$ infiltrate my hard-drive and b) what is it supposed to do? (Does it have any legit function or is it just malware/spyware?

From what I can gather on other forums HP &/or logitech uses this service to provide auto-updates

HOWEVER
A) All of this updates provided by HP can be downloaded from microsoft (automatically and without this pesky backweb service)
B) The backweb service has been cited as a possible exploit for malware/spyware including keyloggers.

With a name like "backweb" and no apparant useful functions it's no wonder it has such bad stigma attached to it...

There ya go. Hope this helps someone out there.
