iahide5.dll - Troubleshooting
Hello all,
Use "move on boot" - it's a fantastic program that has completely fixed the problem I was having.

My anti-spyware reported iahide5.dll and as I had not installed any applications recently I thought it was a bit suspect so I selected "block this item". Unfortunately/fortunately my anti-spyware program continued to report this dll as being freshly blocked over-and-over (e.g. the app the dll was part of was re-launching itself every time it had been blocked) the path reported was /documents&settings/[my user name]/local settings/temp/iahide5.dll
I attempted to delete the dll but (of course) windows reported the file as being in use. That's when I began crawling the forums for answers.
I decided to perform a long overdue spyware + virus scan + registry clean and decided at the same time to have a little poke around my local drives to see if there was anything peculiar and *shazam!* what on earth is c:/program files/backweb ?!?!? I don't remember installing that or seeing that directory at any other time previously (even though my PC is an HP)!
So I tried removing the /backweb folder and sub-directories but (of course) some files were reported as being in use.
Troubleshooting: I went through each dll within the /backweb directory one-by-one and tried deleting it. Every time a delete was denied and reported as 'in use' I added the dll to "move on boot" to be deleted.
I restarted my computer and my anti-spyware app has stopped kicking up a stink (no more iahide5.dll) and my CPU was eerily quiet on start-up.
PROBLEM SOLVED!
NOW my only question to put to the forum is a)How did this god-awful backweb f*#$ infiltrate my hard-drive and b) what is it supposed to do? (Does it have any legit function or is it just malware/spyware?
From what I can gather on other forums HP &/or logitech uses this service to provide auto-updates
HOWEVER
A) All of this updates provided by HP can be downloaded from microsoft (automatically and without this pesky backweb service)
B) The backweb service has been cited as a possible exploit for malware/spyware including keyloggers.
With a name like "backweb" and no apparant useful functions it's no wonder it has such bad stigma attached to it...
There ya go. Hope this helps someone out there.
