I think I was eaten by a virus!

The other morning when I booted up and started to download email, Norton antivirus hung up and gave an error regarding Internet Explorer Scripting. It said I needed to re-install scripting services. I did that and it had no effect. I then installed a new copy of Norton. Now it would not let me activate the software for the same (scripting) reason. I decided to "fall back" to a restore point I had created the day before all this started. System Restore will NOT launch. I also have no 'help', nothing launches when I click it. I re-installed Internet Explorer. No change. Reinstalled the scripting again. No change. Re installed XP-Pro. No change. I removed Norton and installed CA-EZantivirus, but would prefer to have Norton working as well as all the other stuff.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate

Have you been able to run the anti virus to see if you have a virus. I also heard AVG is a good free anti virus on line. There are anti virus programs on line that can also check your system. Also Adaware and Spybot are very good free programs on line for other possible problems. Have all your XP upgrades that are critical for security. This would be a good start. If you can delete a found virus hopefully the damage can be fixed without the need to redo everything. You might also be able to fix some problems with a scan disk and defrag. Others may be able to help you further. It also depends on whether you find a virus and which one it is. Nick
