i reformatted, but ...

but my computer comes with 60 GB (55.7 GB), so after I reformatted, I checked how many GB I have and it was only 36 GB! Can anyone explain why this is so to me? Also, now my desktop icons dont work. Someone please help!!!!
 
yeah, you have a CLS jumper on your hard drive. your bios doesn't support
any hard disks over 36 gb. what you have to do is get a copy of the boot
disk online and format it that the manufacturs disk. Once it's formatted
that way the bios will see the drive as 36 gb but windows will see the full
60. I have the same problem and that's what fixed it. I have a Maxtor drive
in a old 300 MHz machine.

You did select to delete the whole partition and not format and install into
available free space.

Where and how do I do that? I need step by step instructions?? I have the compaq nx7000 business notebook
 
ok first question, did you buy the hard drive and stick it in the computer
or has that hard drive been in there since day one?
