I am attempting to download music onto my I-POD but when I plug the device
into the USB it comes up with the following Message:

Memory Card Manager

Failure to locate supported file types or there are no photos found on this
device.

Latest iTunes installed?
Checked on Apple's support pages/faqs/forums?
 
IIRC it should appear as a disk-drive in Explorer so long as you have the
iPod USB driver installed.

If you install iTunes, this then removes the driveletter and forces you to
use its own idiosyncratic way of loading files.
