I only want to change the formatting of one word in an Excel cell

I've done this on other worksheets but it won't work on this new one.

I have several words entered into an Excel cell. I want to make only one of
the words BOLD and I want to change the font of all others. Excel keeps
converting all characters in the cell.

Select the cell, highlight the word you want bold in the formula bar and then
select bold.

Thanks. I had tried that and couldn't get it to work. But, I have found the
problem. The cell format was a custom format using a numerical formating.
Once I changed this to General, I was able to do the formatting word by word.
