I no longer have the ability to create a folder "on the fly"
in Windows.

???

Whatever I am downloading, I normally download to my
desktop, and create a folder on the desktop into which I
save my new download.

In the past few months, I have noticed that I have to stop
everything, clear my desk (Show Desktop), then right click
on the desktop to create a folder, name the folder, THEN go
BACK to the download and save it into the newly created
folder. That icon that creates a new folder in my "Save As"
window no longer works!

:-(

Since I probably do 10 - 20 or more download/saves a day,
this gets quite annoying.

can someone tell me what happened? I've re-installed my
system all the way down to fdisking and formatting, with
fresh installs, some 3 - 4 times, but still no "folder on
the fly" option.

Is there an easy fix?

TIA

It is probably a system thing where it compensates for double posting of
news postings by not creating folders.

Have you tried creating a folder on your desktop called downloads and seeing
if you can create the folders inside it? Some Folders (like My Documents)
can get problems when you reach a particular number of items saved there-
perhaps it's the same- although I haven't heard it previously. Perhaps you
have some directory or file corruption- have you ran the in-built checking
tools to check file/folder integrity?

Do you need a reply for each of your postings or are you happy with one?

I don't know that I am aware of how to do that.

At any rate, this problem started a few months ago, and even
though I've probably reinstalled the entire system from
"fdisk" like 3 or 4 times now ( to fix this issue as well as
several others), this issue has not resolved itself.

I simply can't make folders on the Desktop on the fly. I
have stop whatever else I'm doing, do a "Show Desktop",
create a folder, then go back to the "save" and save to the
Desktop folder I just created.

As for whether the little icon in the "Save As" window is
operative, it SEEMS to be. I click on it, and it seems to
respond.

It just doesn't create new folders.

Something seems to be amuck in the code.

As for replying to both postings, I thought I'd deleted the
first one, since I had made a tiny error. When I posted the
2nd one, I find I had both on the queue.

Yes, kindly answer both!

is it there and greyed out? (the little create folder button)

No, the little icon is not grayed out. It looks normal, and
when I click it, it seems to respond; it just doesn't create
a new folder.
