Here's the 2-minute course:
The easiest way to do redlines is just click on Track Changes
(Ctrl-Shift-E). Then start revising the document. Anything you add will be
tracked as an insertion and anything you delete will be tracked as a
deletion. Formatting changes will also be tracked. The track changes
function will ONLY track changes that are made while the change tracking is
turned on. You can turn it back off to make changes that you don't want
tracked. (Some people like to track only the content changes.)
Then you can choose how to display and print the changes you've made by
going to Tools - Options - Track Changes. You can choose to display
insertions with color only, with bold or underlining, or with nothing.
Deletions also can be displayed in a variety of ways. Changed lines can be
marked with a sidebar in the margin if you need to. If you wish, you can
turn on the balloons to show formatting changes, etc.
Please be aware that viewing and printing options reside on the computer
being used, rather than within the document. (If your computer is set to
show deletions in red strikeout, and you send a document to your boss, his
computer might be set to not show deletions at all. If he doesn't know how to
set his options, he'll wonder why you didn't track the changes.)
