Hello,
I need to know how is it that one install can differ from the next.
I've had the same Windows XP cd ever since it first released years ago,
but I just reinstalled from scratch and now that it's finished and
booted up, I get errors that I've never seen before.
For example, when I open Outlook Express and try to create a new email
message or post to a newsgroup, I get the error:
"There was an error opening in this message. There is not enough
memory." (Had to goto Google Groups to post this message.)
I've still got 768mb of ram installed and XP recognizes that. I've
installed nothing since the install completed. I don't have any
viruses on my hard drive (deleted and recreated the partition before
reinstalling)and have never had any (I update my NAV religously)
Also, This time it assigned the system drive as F:. I don't have any
external drives or a flash card reader connected and I deleted all the
partitions on the hard drive during the install of XP. Then I created
a 20gig partition to install XP onto and a 1 gig partition should I
choose to install Linux in the future. That partition has been
untouched since the install onto the 20Gig drive. The rest is still
unallocated out of 250Gig on my Maxtor drive. I have two optical
drives installed (DVD +/- burner and a 52X cd burner). Why didn't it
make the system drive C:?
I didn't get any errors at all during the installation and it took
about the same amount of time to install.
I haven't added any new hardware since the last time I installed XP.
Anybody have any idea why XP would install a particular way one time
and differently the next?
Thanks,
Jeff
