How can I find the original copy of a document I have typed over and saved
without saving it under a new name. Any suggestions?

How long since you last backed up your My Documents folder?

If you mean the original save date, it was June 30. I didn't save a "backup"
copy unless my computer automatically does it and I'm not sure if it does.

Your computer does not automatically create backups unless you instruct it
to do so, and this sort of problem is one of the reasons why you should
create backups. See http://www.gmayor.com/automatically_backup.htm for a
start.

Without a backup, the possibility of recovering your document once the
revised document has been closed is remote. You will have to retype it.
