Does anyone know if it is true that I cannot install my
Office 2000 on Windows XP? I just purchased a laptop and
was told by the salesperson that I'd have to buy new
Office Products - I do not want to spend the $ if I can
use the Office 2000 that I already have - Is this true,
or was I being conned?? Please email and let me know -
thanks!

Tell your "salesperson" that the large appliance section is over to the left.
He/She apparently got lost and needs directions to the right department.
Office 2000 will work just fine on Windows XP.

The salesperson is giving you BS.

I use Office 2000 Premium on XP Pro. Works just fine.

Tell that sales person that they're a blithering idiot and should only be
allowed out of the house with a responsible adult :) Of course you can use
Office 2000 with XP... MS would kinda be shooting themselves in the foot if
you couldn't... Just imagine the complaints they'd get....

If your Office 2000 is a OEM version pre-installed on your other computer
than it is licensed only for that computer. You cannot install on your new
laptop.

If your Office 2000 is a retail {full or upgrade} version, you can install
on your desktop and your laptop.

If your Office 2000 is a special license version you may not be able to
install on your laptop or may need to uninstall from your other computer
first.

Open any Office application on your old computer and check Help, EULA to
determine what your license allows.

It's completely false. The salesperson is either lying to you in
the hopes of making a sale, or just has no idea what he's talking
about.

He wants to make a sale. Office 2000 will work fine on XP. Indeed that
reminds me that I must get round to replacing the copy on my laptop with
the Office XP I have on the desktop

The license for Office (retail copies) also covers you for having it on
a laptop of your own in addition to your desktop machine

Do they give away free toasters there too?
