Hello! I am having a big time problem with windows. I have set it up so I can
share some folders my printer and my DVD Burner with other computers in the
house. However, Windows XP Home SP2 keeps wanting to make an Internet
Gateway. And when it does, I cant connect to the internet anymore. I need to
know how to get it to stop making an internet gateway. Please hellp!!! The
only way for me to use the internet is to use Windows in Safe mode! And I do
not want and know that i dont have to do that! So how do I get windows to
stop making an internet gateway? It continually does this even when I change
network settings or restore settings to last know good settings. It is really
frustrating and I dont know what to do. Any suggestions? Thanks in advanced,

Do your computers get their Internet access through a home broadband
router connected to a high-speed DSL or cable modem? If so, the
Internet Gateway represents your router. It lets you monitor and
control the router's operation. In particular, disabling the Internet
Gateway tells the router to disable its Internet connection, which
causes your computers to lose their Internet access until you enable
the Internet Gateway again.

So, I recommend that you ignore the Internet Gateway. It's doing what
it's supposed to do. If you really want to remove it, which won't
have any benefit to your computers, go to Control Panel | Add or
Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components | Networking Services,
and remove the "Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client".

um sorry cant ignore the gateway because it wont let me connect to the
internet when windows creates a internet gateway!!!!! it completely causes me
not be able to connect to the internet. It did not use to do this before
either. It was working fine last week without having a need to create a
gateway. So can I please have help in getting rid of the gateway?

I'm sorry for my last message. I did not read all the way down when i was
reading your message on why not to disable or remove internet gateway. Thanks
again Master Jedi.
