I have reason to believe that my computer may be infected
with a virus. Unfortunatly i cannot install many programs
including Norton Anti-virus because of some registry
error "Error 1406. Could not write value Norton
AntiVirusto ky
HKEY_lOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\Shared
Technology\LiveReg\Apps. Verify that you have sufficient
access to that key, or contact your support personal.".
This also happens when i try to install Nero. When i go
to my registry i see that many folders i do not have
permission to view the settings they allready have only
permissions to change the settings. When i clik on them
it also says that "Canot open (some registry folder):
Error while opening key". And if i try to save permission
changes an error message comes up saying "unable to save
permission changes on (some registry folder). Access is
denied." I'm sure that i should have access to all my
keys because not only am i a windows xp administrator. I
also am on the first account that was made on the
computer. This happens on 17 different folders just under
the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software folder. Also my system
restore works even though it use to show a blank dialog
box. but when i try to restore the computer after
restarting it tells me that no changes were made. The
worst part about this is that only that computer cannot
access the network on my home network. When i try to go
to other computers in my network places it says to make
sure that i have administrator permission to such and
such folder when i know i have set full permission on all
my computers. I tried out many of the KB articles over my
TCP/IP because the computer knows theres a network, but
it does not automatically obtain an ip address or subnet
mask or DNS or any of that stuff. And i think i need to
replace my winsock2 key but i don't have permission to
it. Also i tried Network Diagnostics in the Help and
Support program but when it's about to end it use to say
that there was an error loading some g_xmlDOC file asking
me if i wanted to debug. But now when i run the tool it
just stays stuck at %99 Formatting Results. As you can
see i'm almost completely screwed. I do have an external
hard drive and i have backed up my most important files
in a folder on it. I am almost to the point of calling
Microsoft and paying the money to talk to a professional
or to the point of buying that windows xp cd that lets me
totally re-install it from scratch again. I have the
original Windows Xp cd that i used to install the
program. Please help me if you can in one or many of
these problems, You can also Email me if you wish too.
Thanks
