I just discovered my son has installed a bogus copy of XP Pro on my
laptop....thought he was doing me a favour.
I have dealt with him...now I need to fix my computer :(

How do I reinstall my copy of XP Home? Without losing my data?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist me in this matter

In your situation, a "clean install" of Windows XP Home
would is required, so backup your files.

Unfortunately XP Pro cannot be downgraded to XP Home. The way to do
this is backup all important data, then do a clean install with the XP
Home, install programs from the original media and restore the backed up
data.

Not the answer I was looking for but thank you...I see several hours of
installing programs ahead of me...:(

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

While what your son did was wrong, you may end up in a worse situation
trying to get back to scratch.

Unless your laptop is subject to a software audit, and you probably
wouldn't have had XP Home installed if it was, then I'd leave well
enough alone.

Make your son do it. He buggered it up, have him fix it.

And when the kid is done with it, send it to me. I love using dead
laptops as doorstops!

I imagine you share a certain affinity with doorstops - that figures.

Key word in your sentence:

Imagine.

As it is only in your imagination.

Perhaps it's mass hysteria then because I certainly don't seem to be
alone...

Peace on you too, or something like that :)

doorstops?

I have an abundance of peace of mind! Thanks!

I would suggest the lack of replies is due to the fact the similarity, if
not affinity, is obvious.

Your words prove you are totally out of touch with reality!

The "lack of replies" is due to no one other than you replying, and if
you think it suggests anything else, then you have serious problems with
delusions.
