My comp wasn't booting up so I used the recovery console and followed this
website's
http://www.digitalwebcast.com/2002/03_mar/tutorials/cw_boot_toot.htm
instructions. Now I get a message of Windows XP could not start because the
following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM...

Try a boot into Safe Mode, by hitting F8 just before the "Starting
Windows" screen would appear (takes a bit of practice).
Choose LAST GOOD.

If that does nothing, use a working PC to read this first...

describes a three-step process to extract a copy of the registry
from the System Restore SVI folder.

After your system is restored, the ERUNT utility available here may
make it easier to fix the problem if it recurs...

If the problem persists, try swapping current RAM (even if it checks
good) for a single, high-quality 512Mb chip. XP reportedly is sensitive
to memory timing.

i don't know what cause my comp not to be able to boot and no i didn't see
any error messages. when my comp was originally having problems booting it
would load and then when it showed the screen that tells ya what version of
windows you have(i dunno what that's called) the screen just goes blank to
black and it would do the same thing even when i try running in safe mode. i
really hope i can fix whatevers wrong with my comp and will denny thank's so
