I have a host computer that my mother uses. It has DSL.
She has the router upstairs and I have the D-link antenna
and card in my computer. I can get the internet from her.
But lately things have been a bit buggy. I have on my task
bar a little flashing computer that says that I am
recieving a "very good" connection, but when I check the
status of my connection it says that I am not recieving
any information. I have paid someone 62 dollars to check
this out and they have gotten it to work, but it only will
work for a day or so and then it will loose connection. If
I run system restore I can suddenly get back online, so
therefore, the trouble has to be with windows or something
and not with my card, which will work after I run system
restore. Somehow after I run system restore and everything
works, if I log off or shut down and restart, the settings
are not saved. I have to undo my last restore and then do
the restore again for me to get back online. I guess I
could keep doing this forever and always get online, but
if anyone has an suggestions as to why it is not saving my
settings or why it is stopping working after a few days,
please reply.

The only thing that the person at tech support could tell
me was the problem wasn't with my card because it still
worked after the system restore. Somehow I am getting an
error saying something about a common client error.
So, I suppose the card is working, but I can't get online
for other reasons. I know it is working now after the
system restores, but I can't find what has changed....
If I log off I'll have to unrestore and restore to get
back on.

Anyway, should I reinstall windows and see if that helps?
I don't know what to do, but it is annoying to have to
unrestore and restore to get back online.

I know this probably isn't even the right place to post
about this, so someone with an admin power please move
this to the appropriate area.

what sort of router does your mother have, it sounds to
me that the router is the culprit. If you know what type
of router it is try going to their web pag and joining
their forum, their you can ask your question and you
might find that it could be a common problem. I have hAD
the same problem with my billion 7500g ADSL router. I
have wireless setup and was experiencing wireless
disconnections. this was happening every 5-10 minutes, my
wife was ready to throttle me. However i sent an email to
the billion support centre and they sent me a beta
firmware which i upgraded to and has fixed my problem. So
let me know if i can help you furhter.

Make sure these items are done:
1) The router is on
2)Her PC is on
3) Your PC is on
4) You have primary connection that is good
5) You use the login to the isp that is established for the
active internet account.
