I need a way to see the Mb size of files.

In Explorer the size of files is listed when in "details" view, but not so
for the folders.

Is there some way to contrive this without having to open each folder?

What you need is Treesize.. http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/index.shtml

Right click on folder, choose properties. Will give you what you're looking
for.
