I've made some changes to the default template, and now I can't seem to fix
an outline numbering problem. Is tehre any way I can get a fresh, clean copy
of the normal.dot template to start over from?

Sarah,

Remane your current Normal.dot (e.g., NormalOld.dot). Close and restart
Word. A clean Normal.dot is genereated.

Be aware, though, that your problem may not be in normal.dot. Numbering is
stored elsewhere. See: How to create numbered headings or outline numbering
in your Word document
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html. (For
bullets see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/bullets/controlbullets.html, the
subject is related.)
