Hi,
Make sure that there is no device conflict in the Hardware configuration of your computer.
Right click on my computer and choose properties
in the window that appears choose the hardware tab
click on device manager
scroll down till u see the sounds and audio devices
make sure that there is no yellow question mark next to the device name
try to reinstall the drivers for the sound card.

Reseat ALL speaker and sound card connections.
Un plug (not just turn off) speaker power for a few minutes
Check and make sure volumes up and none are muted.
Check the Digital/Analog setting.
Go to the website of the sound card/computer manufacturer and get the
latest Windows XP drivers.
