I have a tdk 440n external multiformat drive, and I hear that
it is the same as a nec. I did not know this, but I need to find out
how I can upgrade it from tdk firmware 1.08 to nec 1.0c or I'm out about
a hundred dollars for dvds that said they were compatible with my
drive- only I didn't know a tdk 440n nec 1300a 1.0C firmware was different
than what I had. How can I Get 1.0C?
Thanks, smart people!

Hi Lara

http://www.tdk.com/support/dvdburners/indidvd4xmultisup.html#firmware

Scroll down the page to the Firmware Upgrades heading and you'll see the
link to the file just above the red "Note" text.

Hope it solves your problem.

Thank you Nightowl, but I have the external drive. I don't know if I should
still try it; do I have any other recourse if it doesn't work?
Oh, All I want to do is finish a single stinking project without such
@#!%$^^* complications for ONCE!
Thank you nightowl and all you other smart and patient people!

Hi Lara

Yes, I know you have the external model. From what I read on the TDK
site and a couple of other sites where the update was available, all it
does it add compatibility for more types of media.

On the other hand there's always a risk when flashing firmware. If
you're not sure whether to go ahead, it might be a good idea to email
TDK tech support or try out the "live chat" option on Monday.

Hope you get it worked out.
