Hello everyone,
I'm using Windows XP SP2 with all the security updates applied, and most of
the recommended updates.
I have two dial-up connections, with one in use most of the time. What
happens is this: I log on with the default connection, and download my emails
(Eudora) or surf the web (IE6) and I get the message:
You (or a program) have requested information from... (web address here)
in a dialog box asking me which connection I wish to use.
Because I'm already connected, I click on the "do not ask me again until I
next log on" and the problem goes away until I next log on.

Does anyone know the solution to this annoying problem? I've searched and
found nothing.

Kind regards,
Roger Valmadre.

Let me guess, ..."(web address here)" is something you're too ashamed to
divulge ?
....or is it a legitimate program that's asking for access to the web ?

....and it would have been helpful if you'd indicated what software or
program was producing the "You (or a program) have requested information
from... (web address here) in a dialog box" message !? Do you know, I
think I've seen something similar on my PC in the past ...it's not a
Zonealarm (internet prog. outbound alert), message is it ?

regards, Richard

Assuming quite a bit arn't you!

Who cares what the URL is, the point is the dialog box, but some just can't
help attempting to make others feel bad.

My response, would be along the lines You have two types of connections to
the internet, this is confusing your pc, eliminate one and problem solved

Hi sgopus,
Thanks for your response. :-)
I have had two ISPs for a while now, and didn't have this problem before.
I'm not sure what triggered it, but I guess if I'm patient, I'll find the
answer one day.

Kind regards,
Roger Valmadre.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for your response. :-)
Actually, "(web address here)" refers to whatever website the information
comes from. (I don't bother with the "shameful" web sites. ;-) )
Lets say one is reading an email consisting of HTML using Eudora: first the
text is displayed, and then the images start appearing. It's at that point
that the dialog box from the Windows dialer (I think... it's definately from
Windows, not Zone Alarm, as I use that, and know about it's message windows)
appears asking which connection I'd like to use. I guess I made a mistake in
assuming that lots of people would have seen this dialog box pop up. Sorry
'bout that. :-(

Kind regards,
Roger.

Try this in IE:
- Tools, (Internet) Options, Connections tab
- set Never Dial or Dial Whenever...
- OK

As it is, you prolly have Always Dial my Default Connection selected.

Thanks for that idea. :-)
I actually did have "Never Dial" checked, (sorry for not mentioning that
earlier) but your post gave me an idea. I removed both of the dial up
connections I had configured, and re-installed them, and that seems to have
solved the problem. I guess I was just being stubborn (in not wanting to
uninstall anything unless it was _really_ necessary), but I thought that
surely I wasn't the only person to have had this problem, and someone was
sure to know the answer, or could help in some way, and that's what wound up
happening.

Thanks very much for your time and your suggestion. :-)

Kind regards,
Roger Valmadre.
