By "I have gone and set the printer to print background" do you mean that
you checked the box for "Background printing" on the Print tab of Tools |
Options? If so, this option doesn't mean what you think it does. This just
tells Word to print "in the background." Only in Word 2003 is there an
option to "Include with document: Background colors and images." Format |
Background creates a background for Web pages; the only way to get it to
print (other than in Word 2003) is to save the document as a Web page, open
it in your browser, and change the browser settings to print backgrounds.
If you want a background that will print, you need to use what Word calls a
"watermark." In Word 2002/2003, there is a Format | Background: Printed
watermark feature (though this has limited application). For more on
creating a watermark by hand, see “HOW TO: Create a Watermark in Word 97 and
in Microsoft Word 2000â€
